The Board of this consumer services organisation wanted to grow it's business by changing from being product-centric to being customer-centric. But was it's management team up to the challenge?
Project Background
Although the client had a strong track record of success, the organisation entered 2009 with a new set of challenges and opportunities. In particular, it was believed that the business had significant growth potential, primariy through changing its focus to becoming a more customer-centric organisation.
To deliver these growth ambitions, the client required a management team that was fit for purpose - individually and collectively. So the Board commissioned ER Consultants to conduct an independent and rigorous evaluation of its management team to determine their current and future potential to deliver these growth targets. The results were then fed into the design and development of the organisation, their individual development plans and the longer-term succession plans.
Our Approach
ER Consultants worked closed with the Chairman, the Managing Director, and the HR Director throughout the project, which consisted of:
1. Define the clients specific requirements including:
- Understanding their strategic ambitions
- Defining the critical competencies that they require from their executives
2. Design and run the development centre, which comprised of the following elements:
- Personality profile feedback on work-related personality traits
- Team Management Profile indicating their working style preferences
- Competency-based interview, based on a 360 degree feedback
- Team based exercise to evaluate their inter-personal capability
3. Evaluate, report & feedback including:
- A report based on the development centre for each individual executive, and also an overview of the team as a whole;
- One-to-one feedback with each candidate, offering them our assessment of their strengths and development areas, based on the assessment exercises undertaken;
- Their suitability for the roles that the client was looking to be fulfilled.
Next Step
As a result of the development centre and feedback, ER Consultants then facilitated a management development workshop to help the management team begin to address their development needs.
